The End: Part Two
I might just start right at the end.
They weren't all dead, at least not at the same time.
This seems to be controversial, but the more I've read and discussed the more firmly I believe this.
Jack died at the end of this episode. In order for him to "crossover" he needed to be in a safe place with all the people who mattered to him in that moment. They needed to look like how he remembered them, etc. This is why Aaron is a baby and Shannon was there with Sayid. (If we had seen this church scene from one of their points of view things/people may have looked different.)
Christian very clearly said to him, "some of these people have died before you, and some long after you...there is no now here. This is a place you made together, to find each other- the most important times of your lives were spent together." They were all there to crossover together, but they did not all die at the same time.
What I liked was Jack's kind of refusal to "remember" island life- he was the last to come to acceptance that his Flash Sideways wasn't real. He wasn't ready to accept that- he had in the Flash Sideways the relationship with his son, that he never had with his own father. He couldn't give that up. He wasn't ready till he saw and touched his father's coffin. Then it all came flooding back. (And wow, watching it again with the soft white light around his island memories I got emotional, again....or maybe it was just my allergies:)
The Island and everything that happened there was most definitely real. We might not have explanations for everything (Dharma, Others, Jacob, etc) that we wanted, but it was real- and it wasn't purgatory.
Jack did become Jacob- He did protect the island, and he did defeat Smokey (quite easily in fact.) You could almost predict in that scene back at the stream when Hurley said, "I'm just glad it wasn't me"...that somehow it would end up being him and it did.
Hurley is Neville. Obviously this made me very happy- I knew it would come back to Hurley, and I love that he asked Ben to stay on as his "number 2". I also like knowing that they could "change the rules" and leave the island. They didn't necessarily have to run the island like Jacob did.
Ajira Airways ready for take-off
To all of you who wrote to me on Facebook a couple weeks ago, nope- Lapidus wasn't dead. We still needed him to pilot that plane. And he did. With a few tweaks, and blow torches (where did he get that) they were off. He, and Richard, and Miles. The new three stooges. They picked up Kate and Sawyer, and we can only assume made it home. It was the last thing that Jack saw as he lay dying in the bamboo field (with Vincent- how cute was that). The same bamboo field where we saw him in the pilot.
Richard was able to escape- and maybe have an end to his infinite life! How much did you love Richard having a gray hair. I've never seen someone some happy to find out they had a grey hair!
If you don't believe me, read the words of my friend "Watch With Kristin". (Not to be confused with my other friend Kristin who just became a mom again- welcome Josephine!)
I have been devoted to her reporting for many years now, and she's a lot easier to understand than Doc Jensen at EW. She wrote a great "Idiot's Guide to Lost".
So please comment- and we can share in our grief together.
The words of Damon Lindeloff that I stole for Facebook this week-
"Remember. Let go. Move on. I will miss it more than I can ever say."

The End- Part One
I will doing my watching and blogging this weekend- unless the weather cooperates then I'll be at the pool (maybe with laptop in tow)
To tide you over, a little thought
Who was dead? and when?

I bet the nurse at New Otherton High has a problem with her ice packs too
Jack-
I was so mad about the tease about the mother, and we won't find out till tomorrow night. My money is still on Juliet, but I've been wrong about a lot of things lately so maybe it will indeed be Sarah. Julie Bowen was just in Hawaii filming for "Modern Family".....
Locke visits Jack at his office. "Maybe this is all happening for a reason. Maybe you are supposed to fix me."
Des-
Now Desmond always seemed a little mystical. He got extra mystical after blowing up with the hatch (the first time)- "You're gonna die, Charlie", but is it me or does he seem WICKED mystical now? He's on a quest to reunite the old gang- and I'm intrigued to see how this will all play out in the finale. Pretty bold of him to try and run Locke over, AGAIN. As Des said to Ben, I'm not here to hurt him, I'm here to help him let go.....hmmmm.......Des shows up to turn himself in to LAPD, thus reuniting himself with Sawyer, and Sayid, and Kate....
Des is starting to remind me of Mr. Body in Clue. Ha, Ana Lucia.....I like that Hurley has totally accepted this situation.
Des is the failsafe....and FLocke is going to use him to destroy the island!
Ben-
Yikes! Poor Dr. Linus, trying to make a citizens arrest to protect "Mr. Locke". Great to see Rousseau- love the invitation to Coco Vin night. Rousseau insisted he come, "even if we had to kidnap you", isn't she funny..... but I hated Rousseau putting the moves on him. In one reality Ben stole her child, and in the other they could have been together, I don't think so.
Ben lead our two missing friends that we were so concerned about (Richard and Miles) back to New Otherton to retrieve his cache of C4. (Doesn't everyone have C4 hidden in a secret closet in their house?) He also tells them it is connected to the tunnel that he was told was he he could summon the monster- great line, "but now I know the monster summoned me". This solidified to me the fact that Ben never communicated with Jacob as he thought, but with MIB.
Ding dong! Who shows up Ben's door but his old friend Charles Widmore, and Zoe. Oh no- here comes FLocke, let's hide. Did anyone think that would turn out well? Obviously not because Miles took off into the forest. Didn't we love Richard, I'm going to try and talk him....and we haven't seen Richard since. I don't think he is dead, because I don't think he can die. FLocke could kill Zoe, but I don't think he could kill Widmore because I believe Widmore was at one point a candidate. Ben decided that Widmore, "didn't get to save his daughter" and took Widmore out.
Unredeemed Ben appears to be back....
Great line alert!
I lived in these houses 30 years before you did, which was last week....Miles
Magical s'mores
Up until now, only Hurley could see and talk to Jacob. But Jacob decided to put an expiration date on himself, and appear to the candidates who were left.
Jacob says he chose them all because they were all flawed, like him. All alone, and looking for something they couldn't find. The island needed them as much as they needed the island. One of them must protect the light of the island. I really liked Jess's prediction about Kate being crossed off the list for taking Aaron. But to find out that she was crossed out because she kind of had a purpose in life now, being Aaron's mom was interesting. "It's just a line of chalk, the job is yours if you want it"- really, really.....
Jack jumps up and says he will accept the challenge. He drinks from the special cup after Jacob whispered some mumbo jumbo. (The same thing that his mother did to him...)
Great line alert!
Sawyer comments to Kate as Jack drinks from the cup, "I thought that guy had a god complex before...."
Jack asks Jacob how long he will have to do the job- Jacob says as long as you can....
Likes to feel his feet on the ground- reminds him that he was humanTotally Lost, there are six clips this week! The first couple are a little silly, but worth watching. The third, fourth clips show so me great interviews with Jacob and Smokey, and you'll all love Smokey's shirt.

So friends, what will happen? At the beginning of the season, I thought this Sideways world would turn out to not be real. But I'm really invested in it now. I don't want it to disappear!

Jacob have I loved.....
Jacob have I loved, but apparently, not? So the mythology filled episode was.....interesting. Was it completely amazing, not sure. Did we learn some stuff? Yup.
Do we have more questions, yes.
Let's get started:
1. Another shipwreck....so is the electromagnetic energy or the people who cause planes and ships to collide with this island. (At first I thought energy attracted them there, then I thought it was Jacob bringing them there, now back to the energy, or both....) Enter- Claudia....gasping for breath amongst wreckage of some kind. She's wearing a very Greek inspired outfit, but strangely in red. Oh and very pregnant! She's in trouble, and while looking for water in the jungle runs into....CJ Craig! Now, I knew she was going to be in this episode and yet I almost didn't recognize her. She's speaking to Claudia in Latin, but Claudia spoke back to her in Spanish, until they transitioned to English because Darlton has used up their subtitle budget in the six seasons. (You will remember that Juliet told us that it was the language of the Others.)
Mother Other seemed to be expecting a pregnant woman-almost like a prophecy. This baby would perhaps succeed her in this role. She seemed so happy to welcome "Jacob", as Claudia said his name would be. (Didn't Claire do the same thing with "Aaron"? Oh wait, didn't Kate help deliver Aaron then steal him and raise him as her own? Jacob and MIB were also "raised by another".) Was there a prophecy of twins? (You will recall that I predicted them to be twins here.) Women don't survive giving birth on the island....is this where this begins, like some kind of curse?
2. We see a little of Yin and Yang growing up. (A little bit of black and a little bit of white in everything) Yang is the toe haired angelic one. He always follows the rules, he "doesn't know how to lie". One would think he would be the good one, the preferred one. But, Mother Other shows strange love towards Yang. He's the physically darker one, the one who definitely resembles his Mediterranean birthmother. He seems to be sneakier, more adventurous. He fears Mother Other- but she says that Jacob is not as special as he is. (Other brother also saw and spoke with dead mother----like Hurley---what does that mean?)
What gives?
3. Who's good and bad? Jacob seems kind of aggressive. He pummelled his brother a bunch of times. All MIB wanted was to find out where they came from- be with the regular people- go "Across the Sea" to home.
So now I'm confused.....are we really supposed to believe after all of this that MIB isn't bad- or wasn't originally bad? Is he Snape, if you are a Harry Potter fan?
So, being a candidate isn't a good thing?
One thing that bugged me after this episode was the timeline- especially reflecting back on the season premiere (?) when we saw the two guys sitting on the beach, in the shadow of the statue, and watching presumably the Black Rock off in the distance. When did this happen? I assume after we saw Jacob kill his brother and send him into the tunnel of light? And after we got our confirmation that Mother Other and MIB's bodies were the ones to become Adam and Eve in the cave, I was left wondering about how MIB goes around pretending to be certain bodies. Does he just get to appear as the last body he was in? He was trumping around the island with hi back pack and Richard over his shoulder, while the body of the real Locke was being discovered in the coffin on the other side of the island.
So who knows......tomorrow night, then gulp, Sunday...and that's all they wrote!
Check out what the Globe had to say yesterday.

You know that TIMES are tough when Smokey is stealing watches...
Wow. Empty. That's all I could feel at the end of the episode. I knew deaths were coming and I knew some of these characters who I had come to love would be lost, but the episode was still gut wrenching. You all know that I read spoilers, although I will honestly tell you that I haven't found as much recently and really, REALLY don't want to spoil the ending for myself (or the rest of you). I have a few theories about how this whole thing will end, but the zen side of me (the Dude Crush side) wants to just enjoy the ride....
Now as soon as Sun was giving back Jin's ring to him, and they were strangely speaking English to each other, I knew that one or both of them was toast. I know there are a lot of outraged parents out there- how could Jin not choose to get home to Ji Yeon? This just makes me hold on to hope that death in this world isn't necessarily the kiss of death.
Sayid's death didn't entirely surprise me either as he's been "the walking dead" for most of this season. He seemed less zombielike in this episode- and redeemed himself in the end. I had to rewind and hear what he said to Jack before he ran off with the bomb. Let me paraphrase-"Desmond's in the well, FLocke wants him and you need to get to him first, and it will be YOU in the end". We musn't forget that Kate was shot too, and I'm not entirely sure that she will make it. The scene on the beach at the end was a killer. Hearing Hurley cry almost put me over the edge! I will state this again, if they kill off Hurley I don't know what I will do! Many of you emailed me, facebooked me (is that now a verb) that Lapidus must be dead too. There was so much commotion in the explosion, but I don't think we know for sure that he's gone.
This is the link to "Totally Lost" the videos that Doc Jensen and Dan Snierson from EW do. Hysterical, and informative. A must see!

Where is Ben? Miles? Richard? I am still wondering if Ben will be important in the end, and I hope we find out if he ever did communicate with Jacob, or was it always Smokey?
Candidates left- Jack, Sawyer, Hurley- and thanks to the brilliant Jess Bruno we have the reason why Kate Austen was crossed off the list. Because she stole Aaron from Claire, she could no longer be a candidate.
Next week- THE back story finally. Jacob and Smokey and the way they were. Allegedly none (or very few) of the regular cast members will be in this episode. The fabulous Allison Janney of West Wing, Drop Dead Gorgeous, and Juno will be in the episode. Very curious to see what role she will be playing.
If you can make it to a news stand this week you MUST pick up a copy of this week's Entertainment Weekly. It's like 25 pages dedicated to LOST. There's a tribute to everyone who's died, and a recap of each season. Amazing! The best part is that I am bequeathed my very own copy of this magazine this week courtesy of Melissa, who receives two copies at her house. There are eight different covers- HAM received a "Jack" cover and a "Sawyer" cover. She hemmed and hawed over which one to give me. See she's always been more of a Sawyer girl, but shockingly she went with Jack, and I am now the proud owner of the Sawyer mag.
There may be some photocopying and reading during MCAS for all you this week!

One that dots the "I"s and crosses the "T"s
Isn't "Darlton" cute!
Now to be honest- I'm not that surprised. In fact, I think I've come to terms with it. This show that I have loved, and been obsessed with since September 22, 2004, will not end neatly tied with a bow.
Let's be honest people, it's not that kind of show. Monica for one has been saying for a long time that there was no way they would be able to answer all these questions and that they were getting further and further away from where they started, and that maybe there wasn't a total plan. Maybe they were kind of making this up as they went along.
That leads me to this- what questions that we've been waiting for have they answered?
Questions answered- the numbers did matter. Isn't it amazing to think how these writers manipulated our thoughts about these numbers and the hatch? At the start of season 2 when we first came to know the hatch, and the numbers going into the Apple II E computer, and Des (yea, Josie!), and most interesting to me-this electromagnetic thing was a real problem! I guess we suffered through a roller coaster of emotion with Locke, numbers matter and then numbers don't matter. Screw 'em- don't enter them in the computer, it doesn't matter. And then Des realized, oh wait my not entering the numbers caused the crash of 815. We got to see "the incident" as refered to in the Dharma films, as it really happened in the past.
All these people who have come to island were important for a reason- to be candidates. All that stuff we were feeling the first couple seasons, with the intersecting back stories, they were all meant to end up on that island. What's left to find out? Who will be the new Jacob?
Questions they aren't going to answer- I'm fearing the kids with the special powers stuff is going to be left up in the air. Why did the others need Walt or want Aaron? Why did Claire have to raise him? Where did the rest of the original Others, like Ellie and Charles Widmore, come from and how did they end up on the island? I'm thinking there aren't enough episodes left for us to find out.
So the finale may not dot all of our "i"s and cross all of our "t"s.
Bigger question? who's watching the finale with me? :) and who's taking their last personal day the following day?

Dirty word- REPEAT!
An Assignment for you:
1. Post a comment- down at the bottom of this post you will see (Comments). Click here.
If others have already beat you to it, read Lost friends comments on the left. Then you will see a box to your right- Leave a comment. Tell us all your thoughts. Then below you will need to copy some gibberish into the word verification box (this is so I don't get stuck with SPAM)
Next, Choose and Identity.
Kind of Funny....when you think about it....you can be Superman, or Bruce Wayne, or John Locke, or yourself. No seriously, if you don't have a Google Account, you can be "anonymous".
(If you want a google account, it's very easy. It will seem counterintuitive, but you can just use any email address that you use. Click here)
2. Need an idea for your comment- How about, "What I will do when LOST is over?" Is there any show that will replace this for us? V? Flashforward? Fringe?
3. What are you doing since you aren't watching LOST tonight? I can tell you that I am NOT watching 90210....but instead am forcing myself to go to Pilates. No Lost, no excuse. So check with me tomorrow and hopefully the peer pressure of all of you inquiring will force me to go!
If you want to read some Lost thoughts for next week's episode, "The Candidate" (kind of gives you chills, doesn't it?) Then click here
Namaste:)
