The End: Part Two

Ok. I've slept a chunk of today and am pretty high on cold medicine; seems like the perfect time to reflect on what happened to our "Losties".

I might just start right at the end.

They weren't all dead, at least not at the same time.

This seems to be controversial, but the more I've read and discussed the more firmly I believe this.

Jack died at the end of this episode. In order for him to "crossover" he needed to be in a safe place with all the people who mattered to him in that moment. They needed to look like how he remembered them, etc. This is why Aaron is a baby and Shannon was there with Sayid. (If we had seen this church scene from one of their points of view things/people may have looked different.)

Christian very clearly said to him, "some of these people have died before you, and some long after you...there is no now here. This is a place you made together, to find each other- the most important times of your lives were spent together." They were all there to crossover together, but they did not all die at the same time.

What I liked was Jack's kind of refusal to "remember" island life- he was the last to come to acceptance that his Flash Sideways wasn't real. He wasn't ready to accept that- he had in the Flash Sideways the relationship with his son, that he never had with his own father. He couldn't give that up. He wasn't ready till he saw and touched his father's coffin. Then it all came flooding back. (And wow, watching it again with the soft white light around his island memories I got emotional, again....or maybe it was just my allergies:)

The Island and everything that happened there was most definitely real. We might not have explanations for everything (Dharma, Others, Jacob, etc) that we wanted, but it was real- and it wasn't purgatory.

Jack did become Jacob- He did protect the island, and he did defeat Smokey (quite easily in fact.) You could almost predict in that scene back at the stream when Hurley said, "I'm just glad it wasn't me"...that somehow it would end up being him and it did.

Hurley is Neville. Obviously this made me very happy- I knew it would come back to Hurley, and I love that he asked Ben to stay on as his "number 2". I also like knowing that they could "change the rules" and leave the island. They didn't necessarily have to run the island like Jacob did.

Ajira Airways ready for take-off
To all of you who wrote to me on Facebook a couple weeks ago, nope- Lapidus wasn't dead. We still needed him to pilot that plane. And he did. With a few tweaks, and blow torches (where did he get that) they were off. He, and Richard, and Miles. The new three stooges. They picked up Kate and Sawyer, and we can only assume made it home. It was the last thing that Jack saw as he lay dying in the bamboo field (with Vincent- how cute was that). The same bamboo field where we saw him in the pilot.

Richard was able to escape- and maybe have an end to his infinite life! How much did you love Richard having a gray hair. I've never seen someone some happy to find out they had a grey hair!

If you don't believe me, read the words of my friend "Watch With Kristin". (Not to be confused with my other friend Kristin who just became a mom again- welcome Josephine!)
I have been devoted to her reporting for many years now, and she's a lot easier to understand than Doc Jensen at EW. She wrote a great "Idiot's Guide to Lost".

So please comment- and we can share in our grief together.

The words of Damon Lindeloff that I stole for Facebook this week-

"Remember. Let go. Move on. I will miss it more than I can ever say."

The End- Part One

I'm obviously still digesting, and need to rewatch after the gathering with many of you Sunday evening....but I feel pretty good.

I will doing my watching and blogging this weekend- unless the weather cooperates then I'll be at the pool (maybe with laptop in tow)

To tide you over, a little thought

Who was dead? and when?

I bet the nurse at New Otherton High has a problem with her ice packs too

I obviously knew that this show would have to have an end....but I'm not a fan of change, and I'm just so sad to say goodbye. Editor's note- I purposely didn't read Doc Jensen before I blogged today, and it seems that he and I are much in sync with each other. Some similar predictions about the ultimate future/importance of Hurley, Ben, and Juliet. And we thought the same quotes were funny too:)

Jack-
I was so mad about the tease about the mother, and we won't find out till tomorrow night. My money is still on Juliet, but I've been wrong about a lot of things lately so maybe it will indeed be Sarah. Julie Bowen was just in Hawaii filming for "Modern Family".....

Locke visits Jack at his office. "Maybe this is all happening for a reason. Maybe you are supposed to fix me."

Des-
Now Desmond always seemed a little mystical. He got extra mystical after blowing up with the hatch (the first time)- "You're gonna die, Charlie", but is it me or does he seem WICKED mystical now? He's on a quest to reunite the old gang- and I'm intrigued to see how this will all play out in the finale. Pretty bold of him to try and run Locke over, AGAIN. As Des said to Ben, I'm not here to hurt him, I'm here to help him let go.....hmmmm.......Des shows up to turn himself in to LAPD, thus reuniting himself with Sawyer, and Sayid, and Kate....
Des is starting to remind me of Mr. Body in Clue. Ha, Ana Lucia.....I like that Hurley has totally accepted this situation.

Des is the failsafe....and FLocke is going to use him to destroy the island!

Ben-
Yikes! Poor Dr. Linus, trying to make a citizens arrest to protect "Mr. Locke". Great to see Rousseau- love the invitation to Coco Vin night. Rousseau insisted he come, "even if we had to kidnap you", isn't she funny..... but I hated Rousseau putting the moves on him. In one reality Ben stole her child, and in the other they could have been together, I don't think so.

Ben lead our two missing friends that we were so concerned about (Richard and Miles) back to New Otherton to retrieve his cache of C4. (Doesn't everyone have C4 hidden in a secret closet in their house?) He also tells them it is connected to the tunnel that he was told was he he could summon the monster- great line, "but now I know the monster summoned me". This solidified to me the fact that Ben never communicated with Jacob as he thought, but with MIB.

Ding dong! Who shows up Ben's door but his old friend Charles Widmore, and Zoe. Oh no- here comes FLocke, let's hide. Did anyone think that would turn out well? Obviously not because Miles took off into the forest. Didn't we love Richard, I'm going to try and talk him....and we haven't seen Richard since. I don't think he is dead, because I don't think he can die. FLocke could kill Zoe, but I don't think he could kill Widmore because I believe Widmore was at one point a candidate. Ben decided that Widmore, "didn't get to save his daughter" and took Widmore out.

Unredeemed Ben appears to be back....

Great line alert!
I lived in these houses 30 years before you did, which was last week....Miles

Magical s'mores

Up until now, only Hurley could see and talk to Jacob. But Jacob decided to put an expiration date on himself, and appear to the candidates who were left.

Jacob says he chose them all because they were all flawed, like him. All alone, and looking for something they couldn't find. The island needed them as much as they needed the island. One of them must protect the light of the island. I really liked Jess's prediction about Kate being crossed off the list for taking Aaron. But to find out that she was crossed out because she kind of had a purpose in life now, being Aaron's mom was interesting. "It's just a line of chalk, the job is yours if you want it"- really, really.....

Jack jumps up and says he will accept the challenge. He drinks from the special cup after Jacob whispered some mumbo jumbo. (The same thing that his mother did to him...)

Great line alert!

Sawyer comments to Kate as Jack drinks from the cup, "I thought that guy had a god complex before...."

Jack asks Jacob how long he will have to do the job- Jacob says as long as you can....

Likes to feel his feet on the ground- reminds him that he was human

Totally Lost, there are six clips this week! The first couple are a little silly, but worth watching. The third, fourth clips show so me great interviews with Jacob and Smokey, and you'll all love Smokey's shirt.

So friends, what will happen? At the beginning of the season, I thought this Sideways world would turn out to not be real. But I'm really invested in it now. I don't want it to disappear!

Jacob have I loved.....

(Editor's note- don't know how it's already Sunday....I've been trying to avoid reading too many things 'cause I had my own ideas...and we're on the verge of the end here. On that note, I'm publishing what I got, and hope you put up some thoughts before tomorrow night!)

Jacob have I loved, but apparently, not? So the mythology filled episode was.....interesting. Was it completely amazing, not sure. Did we learn some stuff? Yup.

Do we have more questions, yes.

Let's get started:

1. Another shipwreck....so is the electromagnetic energy or the people who cause planes and ships to collide with this island. (At first I thought energy attracted them there, then I thought it was Jacob bringing them there, now back to the energy, or both....) Enter- Claudia....gasping for breath amongst wreckage of some kind. She's wearing a very Greek inspired outfit, but strangely in red. Oh and very pregnant! She's in trouble, and while looking for water in the jungle runs into....CJ Craig! Now, I knew she was going to be in this episode and yet I almost didn't recognize her. She's speaking to Claudia in Latin, but Claudia spoke back to her in Spanish, until they transitioned to English because Darlton has used up their subtitle budget in the six seasons. (You will remember that Juliet told us that it was the language of the Others.)

Mother Other seemed to be expecting a pregnant woman-almost like a prophecy. This baby would perhaps succeed her in this role. She seemed so happy to welcome "Jacob", as Claudia said his name would be. (Didn't Claire do the same thing with "Aaron"? Oh wait, didn't Kate help deliver Aaron then steal him and raise him as her own? Jacob and MIB were also "raised by another".) Was there a prophecy of twins? (You will recall that I predicted them to be twins here.) Women don't survive giving birth on the island....is this where this begins, like some kind of curse?

2. We see a little of Yin and Yang growing up. (A little bit of black and a little bit of white in everything) Yang is the toe haired angelic one. He always follows the rules, he "doesn't know how to lie". One would think he would be the good one, the preferred one. But, Mother Other shows strange love towards Yang. He's the physically darker one, the one who definitely resembles his Mediterranean birthmother. He seems to be sneakier, more adventurous. He fears Mother Other- but she says that Jacob is not as special as he is. (Other brother also saw and spoke with dead mother----like Hurley---what does that mean?)

What gives?

3. Who's good and bad? Jacob seems kind of aggressive. He pummelled his brother a bunch of times. All MIB wanted was to find out where they came from- be with the regular people- go "Across the Sea" to home.

So now I'm confused.....are we really supposed to believe after all of this that MIB isn't bad- or wasn't originally bad? Is he Snape, if you are a Harry Potter fan?

So, being a candidate isn't a good thing?

One thing that bugged me after this episode was the timeline- especially reflecting back on the season premiere (?) when we saw the two guys sitting on the beach, in the shadow of the statue, and watching presumably the Black Rock off in the distance. When did this happen? I assume after we saw Jacob kill his brother and send him into the tunnel of light? And after we got our confirmation that Mother Other and MIB's bodies were the ones to become Adam and Eve in the cave, I was left wondering about how MIB goes around pretending to be certain bodies. Does he just get to appear as the last body he was in? He was trumping around the island with hi back pack and Richard over his shoulder, while the body of the real Locke was being discovered in the coffin on the other side of the island.

So who knows......tomorrow night, then gulp, Sunday...and that's all they wrote!

Check out what the Globe had to say yesterday.

You know that TIMES are tough when Smokey is stealing watches...

No seriously, I know this was no episode to joke about...but while I watch I always try to come up with a clever title, and when FLocke picked the watch off the body near the plane, that's all I could think of.

Wow. Empty. That's all I could feel at the end of the episode. I knew deaths were coming and I knew some of these characters who I had come to love would be lost, but the episode was still gut wrenching. You all know that I read spoilers, although I will honestly tell you that I haven't found as much recently and really, REALLY don't want to spoil the ending for myself (or the rest of you). I have a few theories about how this whole thing will end, but the zen side of me (the Dude Crush side) wants to just enjoy the ride....

Now as soon as Sun was giving back Jin's ring to him, and they were strangely speaking English to each other, I knew that one or both of them was toast. I know there are a lot of outraged parents out there- how could Jin not choose to get home to Ji Yeon? This just makes me hold on to hope that death in this world isn't necessarily the kiss of death.

Sayid's death didn't entirely surprise me either as he's been "the walking dead" for most of this season. He seemed less zombielike in this episode- and redeemed himself in the end. I had to rewind and hear what he said to Jack before he ran off with the bomb. Let me paraphrase-"Desmond's in the well, FLocke wants him and you need to get to him first, and it will be YOU in the end". We musn't forget that Kate was shot too, and I'm not entirely sure that she will make it. The scene on the beach at the end was a killer. Hearing Hurley cry almost put me over the edge! I will state this again, if they kill off Hurley I don't know what I will do! Many of you emailed me, facebooked me (is that now a verb) that Lapidus must be dead too. There was so much commotion in the explosion, but I don't think we know for sure that he's gone.

This is the link to "Totally Lost" the videos that Doc Jensen and Dan Snierson from EW do. Hysterical, and informative. A must see!

http://www.ew.com/ew/video/0,,20313460_20313475,00.html?bcpid=75281507001&bclid=64100614001&bctid=82703953001

Where is Ben? Miles? Richard? I am still wondering if Ben will be important in the end, and I hope we find out if he ever did communicate with Jacob, or was it always Smokey?

Candidates left- Jack, Sawyer, Hurley- and thanks to the brilliant Jess Bruno we have the reason why Kate Austen was crossed off the list. Because she stole Aaron from Claire, she could no longer be a candidate.

Next week- THE back story finally. Jacob and Smokey and the way they were. Allegedly none (or very few) of the regular cast members will be in this episode. The fabulous Allison Janney of West Wing, Drop Dead Gorgeous, and Juno will be in the episode. Very curious to see what role she will be playing.

If you can make it to a news stand this week you MUST pick up a copy of this week's Entertainment Weekly. It's like 25 pages dedicated to LOST. There's a tribute to everyone who's died, and a recap of each season. Amazing! The best part is that I am bequeathed my very own copy of this magazine this week courtesy of Melissa, who receives two copies at her house. There are eight different covers- HAM received a "Jack" cover and a "Sawyer" cover. She hemmed and hawed over which one to give me. See she's always been more of a Sawyer girl, but shockingly she went with Jack, and I am now the proud owner of the Sawyer mag.

There may be some photocopying and reading during MCAS for all you this week!

One that dots the "I"s and crosses the "T"s

There was some breaking news last week- and more than one of you have mentioned it to me in person or forwarded me links to the interview. Our friends "Darlton" (the much referenced in this blog producers, Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse) have come forth to say that the finale may not be all that people have hoped and that all of our questions will not be answered.

Isn't "Darlton" cute!

Now to be honest- I'm not that surprised. In fact, I think I've come to terms with it. This show that I have loved, and been obsessed with since September 22, 2004, will not end neatly tied with a bow.

Let's be honest people, it's not that kind of show. Monica for one has been saying for a long time that there was no way they would be able to answer all these questions and that they were getting further and further away from where they started, and that maybe there wasn't a total plan. Maybe they were kind of making this up as they went along.

That leads me to this- what questions that we've been waiting for have they answered?

Questions answered- the numbers did matter. Isn't it amazing to think how these writers manipulated our thoughts about these numbers and the hatch? At the start of season 2 when we first came to know the hatch, and the numbers going into the Apple II E computer, and Des (yea, Josie!), and most interesting to me-this electromagnetic thing was a real problem! I guess we suffered through a roller coaster of emotion with Locke, numbers matter and then numbers don't matter. Screw 'em- don't enter them in the computer, it doesn't matter. And then Des realized, oh wait my not entering the numbers caused the crash of 815. We got to see "the incident" as refered to in the Dharma films, as it really happened in the past.

All these people who have come to island were important for a reason- to be candidates. All that stuff we were feeling the first couple seasons, with the intersecting back stories, they were all meant to end up on that island. What's left to find out? Who will be the new Jacob?

Questions they aren't going to answer- I'm fearing the kids with the special powers stuff is going to be left up in the air. Why did the others need Walt or want Aaron? Why did Claire have to raise him? Where did the rest of the original Others, like Ellie and Charles Widmore, come from and how did they end up on the island? I'm thinking there aren't enough episodes left for us to find out.

So the finale may not dot all of our "i"s and cross all of our "t"s.

Bigger question? who's watching the finale with me? :) and who's taking their last personal day the following day?

Dirty word- REPEAT!

No new episode this Tuesday- but I still figured I would post. I don't have too many opportunites left to post on this Lost blog so I need to live it up, right?

An Assignment for you:

1. Post a comment- down at the bottom of this post you will see (Comments). Click here.

If others have already beat you to it, read Lost friends comments on the left. Then you will see a box to your right- Leave a comment. Tell us all your thoughts. Then below you will need to copy some gibberish into the word verification box (this is so I don't get stuck with SPAM)

Next, Choose and Identity.

Kind of Funny....when you think about it....you can be Superman, or Bruce Wayne, or John Locke, or yourself. No seriously, if you don't have a Google Account, you can be "anonymous".

(If you want a google account, it's very easy. It will seem counterintuitive, but you can just use any email address that you use. Click here)

2. Need an idea for your comment- How about, "What I will do when LOST is over?" Is there any show that will replace this for us? V? Flashforward? Fringe?

3. What are you doing since you aren't watching LOST tonight? I can tell you that I am NOT watching 90210....but instead am forcing myself to go to Pilates. No Lost, no excuse. So check with me tomorrow and hopefully the peer pressure of all of you inquiring will force me to go!

If you want to read some Lost thoughts for next week's episode, "The Candidate" (kind of gives you chills, doesn't it?) Then click here

Namaste:)

"Just sit right back and you'll hear a tale..."

Apparently a tale of Burt Reynold's movies- classic! Frank Lapidus in "Smokey and the Bandit"

It seems it is the consensus of many out there in the world of the interweb that "The Last Recruit" was a filler episode. A filler episode filled with some interesting tid bits, zingers, and a path of where things may be headed.

Right off the bat- the camps merge, and it's time for Jack and FLocke to come face to face. (Suddenly Hurley doesn't feel as important- maybe he's fulfilled his purpose. Ruh, roh! Also, Hurley told Claire she looked "great". Really Hurley, have you seen that bee's nest on her head?) FLocke immediately mocks his Locke- how he was "stupid enough to think he was brought here for a reason"! I still go back to that very early episode where Locke came face to face with the "monster", or when the monster tried to drag him down the hole near the temple. Has Smokey been after him for awhile?

Jack seems strangely at peace. While on the Elizabeth, he realized he had to go back. He didn't make anyone else follow him. He just went. As the new man of faith, he knows the island isn't done with him. He has come full circle. Is he ready to be the new Jacob?

Confirmation that Christian was the Smoke Monster, which only makes sense. The Shack is where Jacob was supposed to live, where Ben went to "speak" with Jacob and took Locke there. But it wasn't ever Jacob. Wasn't the volcanic ash line around the shack "broken"? There are those who are saying that Smokey is a liar and how can we believe him. Christian appeared to Jack off the island as well. Maybe Smokey can project himself (a la Walt) or maybe it was just a vision of his dad, but I'm inclined to believe that the Christian we've seen on the island was in fact Smokey. If I'm wrong....I will....something. You can tell me.

All worlds come together at the hospital (like "General Hospital")- Sun who was shot recognizes Locke, Jack is called in to operate on Locke- will he fix him this time?
So sweet to see Jack and his son, David. Much debate was had at Lisa's house over David's mother and whether we will see her. I believe we will meet her- and she will be Juliet. And before the end of the series, Juliet will run into Sawyer and have their coffee shop date (I think that might be where Des and Penny are scheduled to meet up)

Kate seems like such a useless character this whole season. (I know many of you are not Kate fans.) How peculiar that she was able to get Claire on that boat? Will Claire actually be able to be reunited with Aaron?

Hey, where is Richard? Running crazy-eyed all around the jungle? Is Des still at the bottom of that well? Did Zombie Sayid do him in?

Oh- and finally, finally, after what seems like five seasons- Sun and Jin are finally together again! Will it last? Will they both survive the coming war?

Do you all know the big finale is two hours on SUNDAY, May 23rd? Who's taking Monday the 24th off :) ?

Ilana, we hardly knew you.....

So a week later, and I'm finally trying to edit this and get some discussion going before tomorrow night! I'm so on vacation time....I'm mad because I had some witty things to say, and they didn't get saved....guess you're stuck with whatever I come up with right now. A moment of silence for Ilana who blew up a la Dr. Arzt with the unstable dynamite. I was honestly shocked that she went kaboom! I had to ask JoEllen if I had missed something....because, ok maybe I wasn't totally paying attention! I promise to be good this week:)

Things I'm pondering.....

Des, Des, Des- According to Lisa (and her son), Des is the new Jacob. Ok- I'll play. Des certainly is the new Cupid as he is using the manifest to unite people like Hurley and Libby. Was Des on the list? Was he a candidate? I've been trying to look for screen shots of the cave ceiling or of the dial at the lighthouse, but no luck. We know that FLocke didn't seem to be so thrilled to that Des and his electromagnetic repelling self had returned. What's with throwing Des down the well? Not cool:(

I'm bothered by this "alive" not "alive" thing in the Sideways world. How can Libby, and Charlie, be alive in one world and remembering the island world, but dead in that world.

True to their word, the producers have been giving us answers. But does anyone else find them to be, a little anti-climactic? (I'm staying positive, I'm staying positive....) The Whispers- souls who cannot move forward- urghhh....more Purgatory. No, no, no !!!

Has Hurley "seen" any dead friends who actually died on the island? Why hasn't Libby appeared to him? Didn't he see Ana Lucia (and lots of Charlie and Mr. Eko) off the island?

Ok- now to the big stuff....
Reasons why Des hit Locke? I'm hearing all sorts of ideas

1. Des was after Locke after throwing him down the well

2. Des was trying to "hit" Locke and force him to remember the island (as he seems to be doing person by person). Locke's face seemed a bit revealing when he was hit.... (How great was Dr. Linus patrolling the parking lot for pedophiles? Funny!)

3. Des was trying to "hit" Locke and force him to switch realities to the island body where he would re inhabit his body bumping Smokey out.

Remember how "Good Locke" always called Hurley "Hugo" and Sawyer "James"- How did he know their real names? That was never explained. How long has he been he the almighty Smokey? Or could he have been chosen by Smokey as someone to hold on to long ago. Old Locke didn't ever want to leave the island- because it was his Paradise that gave him back his legs. Remember in "Cabin Fever" when Hurley found Jacob's cabin, and he saw Christian rocking in the chair in it- and then Locke's eye popped up in the window?

Jack and FLocke finally came face to face. Science vs. Faith vs. evil incarnate? And these two camps have merged.....hmmmm.....

Will Sun and Jin reunite? I know they're is supposed to be more deaths- and I'm starting to get nervous. :(

Did you love the Willy Wonka music in the preview? "There's no way of knowing, which way we are going....." Oohhh, I have shivers right now!

The Night I've been fearing has arrived....

So awhile back- I reported (click there) that the producers of probably my new favorite show of the year (next to Modern Family) must be conspiring against me- because Glee was going to be moving from Wednesdays to TUESDAYS at 9 when it returned in April.

Now I thought, April is really far away. So I pulled a Scarlett O'Hara, and thought, "I won't think about that now. I'll think about that tomorrow." And I haven't thought about it. I've been happily watching and recording Lost, so I could rewatch and blog when necessary.

Well the night has come- and I'm screwed! I have an old TiVo, and it doesn't tape two shows at once. (Something to be rectified over vacation, since my brother gave me one of his old TiVos and I'm going to put it in my room. Doesn't one person need two TiVos? Someone sign me up for some inpatient rehab, quick!)

So, I'm taping Glee which starts at 9:28, stupid Idol. Sorry, Stacey and Natalie. And I'm watching Lost, because I wouldn't be able to attend my grade level breakfast tomorrow morning if I didn't.

Life is so hard...............:)

All You Need is Love.....

So, now we know. This island isn't HELL, it is a CORK to keep evil in, but what this show is all about is LOVE. Sigh.....

What a crazy *&#@%$ episode! We've been waiting and waiting for our Des episode and he certainly didn't disappoint!

Weren't you so happy for Des at first? Life was good. He was traveling the world, living the life, and was the right-hand man of good ol' Charles Widmore. What a great twist to have Charles married to Ellie, and an actual father to Daniel Farraday. Fisher Stevens was good, and creepy, as Des's L.A. chauffeur. Loved the Charlie/Des dynamic. When Charlie said that he had "seen" his other life, and that he was a beautiful blonde, I knew he meant Claire. Did your head spin when Charlie forced the car into the water (at the marina where I think Dylan's dad may have "died" on 90210)? Did you gasp when he held up his hand and said "Not Penny's boat". Ahhh.....It was then that I knew this episode was amazing!

I think we might have some answers. Sideways world is not real-but is it what many of them would like to imagine their lives to be. Maybe they aren't happy or perfect, but they are some other version of what their life could've been. Everyone on some level in their Sideways is realizing that this is not reality- a la the mirror/reflective shots. Desmond is the first to put it all together. Oh, and Daniel Farraday knows something. Think back to "The Constant"- Daniel always has his notebook (in which he wrote "Desmond is my constant"), and Des has his Penny. In this case, she is Penny Milton. (JoEllen enter all comments about John Milton's Paradise Lost here.) My prediction- these worlds will merge, and everyone ends up back on the Island just in time for "the war".

(Hold on- Charlie is dead. Why is he alive in that Sideways- or was he only alive because it was Des's faux reality?)

Des starts to put things together and decides to have Fisher Stevens get him the manifest from Oceanic 815-then wakes up on the island. Is anyone else surprised at how much of this season this Sideways thing is lasting? Opposite of my feeling from last season. I thought it would take them longer to get back to the island, than it did.

Ruh roh! Scary Sayid has come to "save" Des. Crispy Des goes off with him! Des is going to make it through, right?

new episode- "Everyone Loves Hurley"- the other side to "Everyone Hates Hugo"
Who will we see? Libby? Michael? Will Hurley be able to lead everyone to safety?

Josie's Constant

I was remiss in my previous post in spending enough time actually discussing "The Package".

I apologize- I was rushing to put my rough notes into an actualy post before Sunday turned into Monday.

I believe I actually predicted Des being the package a couple posts back- go me!
Why does his father-in-law have him locked up? Where's Penny and little Charlie?
Tonight's episode is called "Happily Ever After". Is it too much to hope that Des will have a happily ever after? I'm with Josie in hopes that he survives to the finale. Or there will be some serious mourning going on at school tomorrow:(

What did Widmore mean when he told Jin that if Smokey gets off the island that both of their daughters will "cease to be"?
I couldn't imbed the video- but you must watch the first part of "Totally Lost"
Scroll to the bottom
Very funny- and it seems many of our thoughts were shared by others! (or Other others)
Also- if you didn't see in Comments from last time- Chris posted this hystertical link
I know what I want for my birthday!

This episode of Lost was brought to you by....

Seriously- how many commercials were in this episode? They really broke up the flow- know what else was annoying? The little "V" icon in the bottom of the screen combined with the local New England flooding news, made the Korean subtitles of "The Package" difficult to read.
When we had seen Sun and Jin getting stuck in customs in "LAX", some sharp eared people caught the fact that Sun was referred to as "Ms. Paik" and not "Mrs. Kwon". Now we know for sure- they aren't married in this Sideways world. What is the significance of this? My guess is that it is to show us that Sun is not a Kwon and therefor can not be the "Kwon"candidate from the cave.

On the island, Sun and Jin are still trying to find their way back to each other. Jin realizes the danger of "FLocke" and plans to take off- too bad Widmore's people get to him first. Why take him? And why bring him to Room 23 where Alex's boyfriend Karl was held and subjected to all those crazy messages (which I believe included some stuff about Jacob)?

FLocke goes off to see Sun. I loved Sun back at her garden- we'd almost forgotten about that! Sun isn't buying what Smokey is selling- she runs, he chases. Shouldn't it have been easier for him to catch her? (How great was Sawyer when he said, "can't you just turn into smoke and fly off this island- oh, no that would be crazy!" Sun hits her head, and loses her English. What's up with that? What does this mean?

What is this sonic fence that Widmore's crew is setting up- the one that kept Smokey out of New Otherton- and where do i get one? Brookstone? Is the sonic fence, related to the electromagnetic force? is FLocke somehow related to the electromagnetic force?

Deaths are coming- and not insignificant deaths like Ilana or Zoe
Creepy how FLocke said almost all the names had been crossed out- implied that he neededthem all together, when in reality he's bumping them off. Also going to let his "pet" Claire kill Kate. Is Kate expendable? will she really not make it to the end of the series?
Can Sayid and his soul be saved?
Who will we really be upset to die?

Viewer Mail- My dear Mommy, Esq. mentioned in comments that she is wondering about the whereabouts of Rose and Bernard and that they did not time travel. I disagree. They time travelled too they were just living their "retirement" in peace they way they wanted, with Vincent. Are they Adam and Even skeletons found in caves?

Amazeballs!

I know that some of you weren't Buffy the Vampire Slayer Fans. Some of you know it was a silly movie starring the fabulous Oscar worthy, Kristy Swanson. (just kidding) But it was also an awesome show by the fabulous Joss Whedon, starring the lovely Sarah Michelle Gellar.

If you liked the show, you'll see why I was so excited when Melissa just emailed it to me! If you aren't familiar with the show, you'll still enjoy the recap of pictures from past seasons:)

I wish I has the free time that some people out there do to make things like this!

"ille qui nos omnes servabit"

So many of you are so kind and complementary- you enjoy the blog you tell me, you email me back and tell me what you liked- please comment then! I only have seven episodes left to blog about, so you would make me ever so happy if you would leave your compliment, or your comment here! Blog-ettiquette says you should "delurk" and comment. You can do it! Alison figured it out:) or maybe I finally unlocked all the right things.

Let's get down to business- I've been wondering:

Are Jacob and the Smoke Monster brothers? I keep thinking about biblical brothers like Jacob and Esau (how many of you read Katherine Paterson's Jacob Have I Loved?) Have you noticed that we don't know the Smoke Monster's real name? Jacob was the golden beloved one, and Esau the unloved. Remind you of our two eternal island dwellers?

The island is a cork that keeps the evil (smoke monster) in- when the numbers leaked from the island a little evil made it's way in the world, and caused Hurley and others before him much grief. But there is evil in the world, so how much worse would the world be if Smokey escaped?

Who will be the new Jacob in the end? I had thought for awhile, Jack. But is Jack meant to sacrifice himself because he could never be happy in the real world? Could it be Hurley? Hurley has got to be important, right? It's never the ones you expect (I always new Neville Longbottom would be the key of "Harry Potter" especially when we found out that he could've been the chosen one by Voldemorte, but I digress....)

Have you realized that Jack and Flocke haven't met yet? The relationship and the dynamic between Jack (the man of science) and Locke (the man of faith) is so integral to the show. What will happen when they meet?

Taweret- the statue. So we now know that the Black Rock wiped out Taweret, the Egyptian goddess of birth, rebirth and the northern sky (random). That's why all that's left of her is her four-toed foot. According to Jonathan, this must be the reason why women can not get pregnant and children can not be born on the island! Perhaps, perhaps.....I have also been wondering if Jacob prevented pregnancies/births as to prevent the Smoke Monster from inhabiting bodies and souls.

Who's locked up in Widmore's sub? His lovely son-in-law Des perhaps? Wouldn't that make you happy Josie:)?

If the island is gateway to hell- shouldn't we maybe see if Buffy the Vampire Slayer and the Scooby gang are available to come take care of this? I think Sarah Michelle Gellar might be looking for some work....Stacey get on that, ok?

Anyone know where my post title comes from?????

What the Hell.....?

(***In an effort to be better about posting- I am writing this and watching the episode simultaneously)

No, not "What the Helen" the reality show that I live everyday or as Lisa says, "Who the Hell is Helen", but HELL.

Really. It can't be. This long awaited back story of pretty eyes Richard starts with him telling the final candidates of Jacob that they are all dead, and the island is hell! The last few weeks I've been reading spoilers on my various sites that were pointing to the significance of the island being a "four letter word". I was trying to dance around these spoilers because I really didn't want to figure them out. I've been one of those people from Season 1 who was refusing to accept that this could all be purgatory or hell. I frankly believe that we all deserve more than that!

With Richard's kind of exotic quality I expected a back story from Ancient Egypt. But instead he's from the Canary Islands. Ok. He ended up in jail after accidentally killing a rich doctor who wouldn't come out to save his dying wife. Sad. He has always seemed conflicted. A great priest who wouldn't forgive him for his sins. A nice message to play during Lent.

He's "luckily" plucked out of prison to go on a ship to the "new world". (Which by 1865 I'm sure they were calling the Americas or North America) Off he goes on the Black Rock. And the rest we know if history. (shout out to the Hansos)

Did the captain have the sickness? is that why he was running his sword through everyone?

Smoke monster comes- judges and leaves him??? Porque? and ugh an episode filled with Spanish subtitles- that's one Romance language I didn't study.

Is it me or does the man in black kind of look like a thinner cleaned up Richard Hatch?

I feel like we are really being played over who is bad and who is good? who do we believe? I'm sure Richard was confused? and Ben? I feel like I got some answers- and I'm buying into this "cork" thing. A ha, CORK not HELL. Jacob needs to keep the Smoke Monster on the island, or hell will be unleashed.

(PS-I totally called Hurley talking to the dead wife- Spanish and all.)

It's just a little show about a plane crash......................or obviously much, much more

Conning a con (and some recon)

I think this was my favorite sideways life yet! Sawyer is the opposite of himself in so many ways; he's not a con man, he is "the law". Miles, who we came to love as LaFleur's trust right hand man at New Otherton, is indeed his partner in L.A.P.D. What remains the same is that James Ford is still looking for "Sawyer" and he may have some commitment issues. Loved Dr. Charlotte Lewis popping up. I love that Miles set them up as she worked with "his dad" (Dr. Marvin Candle, aka Dr. Pierre Chang) I think most people assumed/hoped that Juliet would show up in Sawyer's sideways. I think this might be more proof that she will end up as the mother of David Shepherd. But I predict that she and Sawyer will meet again.....

The Smoke Monster's followers are strange group. Sayid looks so out of it- what's his deal? We knew it was only a matter of time before Claire attacked Kate- but how about Faux Locke's reaction? Slapping her silly! There is definitely some deep stuff to discuss in Smokey's discussion of Aaron now having a "crazy mom" and how " a long time ago" he had a crazy mom too. Now real Locke's mom was in the loony bin, but Smokey had a mom? How long ago was that?

What did you think of Faux Locke sending Sawyer off to do recon? Did he really want him to bring back information? Did he expect him to be killed by whomever was over there? I know that many of you were probably not happy with the introduction of Zoe. ( I could almost hear you Mon saying, "no more newbies!". We knew Widmore was coming- and don't forget that he told real Locke last year that "war was coming to the island".

Me thinks that war has arrived.

Dr.Linus, I presume...

Did you love this Ben-centric episode?

I definitely did- and not just because AP Modern European History was my FAVORITE class of high school. (I wonder what dear Miss Horn is up to these days....some of you will know this, "Take out this document...."

Alex Rousseau seemed to be pretty lucky to have Dr. Linus as a teacher. I think Dr. Linus would've been a pretty cool teacher, a la our friend Dr. Ryan at RMHS! I'm sure Dr. Linus would sing national anthems in foreign languages and support the History Club.

How interesting that in Ben's Sideways, his "Roger Workman" dad is still alive and they seem to have a pretty good relationship. What blew my mind of course was the fact that they HAD been part of the DHARMA initiative and had LEFT the island? Woah-hmmmmm.......

Ben tries to blackmail the principal- no good. He does however get Alex her Yale recommendation. Island Ben tries to escape- only to find that Ilana (and Jacob) will forgive him. Ben Linus finds redemption, off and on the island.

Oh and don't forget the Jack, Hurley and Richard's escapade at the Black Rock. Jack suddenly is a man of faith.

The best part of the episode- Charles Widmore and his submarine arriving back at the island! Geez, what is it about this island that keeps pulling everyone back.

Periscope down, Mr. Widmore.

Everybody was Kung Fu Fighting...

I had planned to write a witty post (oh, four or five days ago) about this episode and the fabulous fight scene between Sayid and Dogen....and I've somehow run out of time because it's t-minus 67 minutes till a new episode.

So what did you think? Especially the end? Sayid is bad and always will be- someone I talked to in the past week pointed out that Sayid has always worn black since the beginning and Jack is most often wearing a white shirt. ? Significant? That Last Supper I posted way back too- are most of the people at the end of this episode, who are now with Locke- are sitting to his right (our left)- except Alana- she's the Wild Card.

The Keamy twist was a good one- I almost didn't recongnize him. Sayid took care of him in one swoop! How about Jin in the freezer?

I don't think I even had time in the past week to read all of Doc Jensen's thoughts at EW- that tells you how crazed I am. One tidbit I found that I thought was funny- Terry O'Quinn (Locke) was referring to his new self as- Puffy :)

The Lighthouse will lead the way....

I’m a woman of faith. Maybe it’s my attempt to have a mostly cheery disposition (shush), but I am not giving up on Lost. I know there are a lot of complainers out there; too many new questions, too many new Others. I’m not giving up yet. I’m just embracing Season 6 and trying to love every minute of it. Many, many years ago I remember hearing or reading that those random people you see every day, you know the person at Dunkin Donuts or the person in the car next to you on the same stretch of double-divided highway, are people you meant to see or know for some reason. I have always totally believed that. This idea lead to a discussion about this season and the “Alternate reality” (which btw Darlton is saying is not an alternate reality- hmmm to be discussed more later) School comrade Lisa says, that she believes that somehow everyone in the alternate reality is going to end up on the island anyway. Hmmm…. Friend Amy says that it’s okay for the Sideways world to be different because 815 never crashed, and maybe life before that changed as well. A total shift in the timeline.

Quick thoughts from this past episode:
1. Jack mentioned to Hurley that he saw his dead father on the island- I wondered if this made Hurley think about all the dead people that he sees? Back in the cave, Adam and Eve- must be important. Love Hurley wondering if it could be them from another time travelling time….hmmmm….

2. Jack wondering about his appendectomy scar…..hmmmm…..seems like he was thinking about it……

3. I miss the comic relief of Hurley in these serious episodes. How about Jacob telling Hurley to get Jack to go somewhere with him and Hurley’s response- “Have you ever tried to get Jack to do something?”

4. Crazy Freaking axe carrying Claire- with her crazy baby! What about when Jin tells her Kate has Aaron! Her response, “I would kill her!”

5. Claire’s recognition of the “Lockeness Monster” J as her “friend” was confirmation to me that Smokey was previously inhabiting the body of Christian Shepherd and that he was pretending to be Jacob as Christian back in the shack.

6. Sideways Jack has a son named David. Jack seemed doomed to repeat the sins of his father, but worked hard at the end to repair his relationship with this teen. Who is David’s mother? Was Julie Bowen just not available because she is now tied up as Claire on “Modern Family”? I think not- they didn’t tell us for a reason. Could it be Juliet? (Easter Egg- Jack found the key to David’s house under a rabbit statue.)

7. Lighthouse- WOW! Jacob has been watching, like Santa I guess. Kate’s name was on that dial and 108 was “Wallace”.

Now I want to hear your thoughts. Oh, but this is good too.

Jacob, is that you?

Don't have a lot of time to post before tonight's episode, "The Lighthouse" but I just read a few interesting things over at Doc Jensen at EW.

http://popwatch.ew.com/2010/02/23/countdown-to-lost-lighthouse-substitute/

Not too spoilery- but he definitely makes you think

and I'm especially intrigued by his reference to the episode where we saw Richard visit Locke as a child and present him with the items- remember Richard asked him to pick the one that belonged to him- and he picked the knife, and Richard freaked! A precursor to Smokey.....

Look left, look right.....

Sorry, I've been remiss in posting as promised. Vacation business got a hold of me, and as Tom Hanks said in You've Got Mail, "I've had a project that needed some.....tweaking" I've been super busy doing a million things- but I'm back and we've got LOST to discuss.

WARNING- This post is a little disjointed, but I'm sure you peeps will understand:)

First and foremost, "What Kate Does" - So raise your hand if you thought Sayid had been inhabited by Jacob? Apparently, no as Mr. Ohno and Lennon had to "test" him. He's infected, with a darkness=smoke monster? (Lots of irony to see the torturer being tortured.) Very interesting to see the pill that Mr. Ohno created and that Dr. Jack was supposed to administer to Sayid. Hold on a minute- that pill looks familiar? I know them as veggie pills and take two of those a day- is my gym trainer trying to kill me?

Claire has also been infected, a la why she has morphed into trap-setting Rousseau. (And both women gave birth on the island and lost their babies) I will say that I find this twist intriguing. I really thought Claire was dead, which is why she was in the "shack" with Christian/Jacob. But were all the times we (Jack) saw Christian was he really the Smoke Monster.

This past week's, "The Substitute"-

What's the deal with these Flash sideways- why are they different? Why are people's lives not as they were before? I assumed that we would see how life would've been if Flight 815 had arrived at LAX, but it appears that life for the Losties was different before they left too. (Hurley saying he's the luckiest guy in the world. Rose works for Hurley- I didn't think she even lived in L.A.)

Locke was definitely not with Helen [ :)] when he left on his walkabout. He was with her awhile back when he got obsessed with his dad. And they were going to invite his long-con dad to their wedding. How was he injured, if not by his dad?

Mommy, Esq is bothered by watching a Locke sideways story where he really is Locke and then an island story where he is no longer our Locke. I enjoy calling him "Faux Locke" or the also enjoyable "Flocke"- but I propose to you a third name that is also meaningful- "UnLocke"

How creepy was UnLocke travelling the island as his smoke monster self and the reflection we could see of that in the window at Sawyer's house in New Otherton? (PS- that metallic chugging sound that we hear when we see the Smoke Monster, is the same sound I heard in the car wash today. I half expected to see some swirling smoke and my life flashing before my eyes- eek!)
Do we love Sawyer's drunken/despondent acceptance of Locke's appearance? Is Sawyer the new Locke, as he blindly follows UnLocke around the island?

The climb down to the cave was crazy/ Names on the ceiling- I of course deleted the episode after I only got to watch the scene once with my TiVo slowmotion. Are these the same names as on "the list", and if so why no Kate? Could this whole thing possibly just be about finding the next Jacob? (is that who that was little blond kid running around the island messing with UnLocke's head) I feel a great reality show coming on, "Lost Island's Next Jacob Top Idol".

Other favorite parts of the episode- I loved crazy-eyed Richard running away from UnLocke/Smoke Monster who could easily catch him. I love when he stumbled out of the brush to tell Sawyer that they needed to run back to the temple for safety. I'm really looking forward to his back story. Locke's funeral, with Sun, Lapidus, and Ben of all people. Ben apologizing for murdering him and Lapidus' saying, "worst funeral I've ever been to." Oh and I almost forgot- Ben turning out to be Dr. Linus at the school Locke is substituting at. Love the grumbling about the coffee filter- very much like the grumbling about missing forks in the Killam staff room...:)

In casting news:

Apparently Maggie Grace's Shannon is back in- a day later and dollar short for me. She belonged on that plane arguing with Boone. I'm not sure I need to see her now. How about you?

Next week- "The Lighthouse"- Hmmm.....wasn't that the name of the place in LA where we saw Ellie, Daniel Farraday's mother?

Place holder

February vacation has finally come- ahhhhhh.....

I know all of you non-teacher people think we get way too many vacations and why do we need another so soon, blah, blah, blah- I can guarantee you that it always come just in time to air out all the germs in the building and hopefully recharge our batteries. And my kids have drained my batteries dry.

On that note- I am off to NH for a few days, and will return on Sunday with a fabulous post that I will be composing while relaxing, and not skiing, up there.

Did episode 6.03- "What Kate Does" do it for you?

HBS out

Thursday, February 4, 2010

BINGO!

I've been checking in with as many of my real life Lost friends and have a few more tidbits I would like to share or discuss.

*Different realities- it is my personal opinion that the two different realities will not last the entire season, but part of it. I'm totally torn over which reality will win out....Island or no Island?

*When Juliet told Sawyer (via Miles) that, "it worked", what do you think that meant? Was she just heading to the beyond or did she know something.....I don't believe we've seen the last of Juliet. (But she better not die again!)

*There was a big discussion at school about the size and length of chain that Hurley's VW van was carrying. And how the can could never have been able to pull off the stuff. According to several sources (no one apparently more fired up then the best captain of the best boat I know), that size and weight of chain would never be able to be sustained by the piddly engine of the Dharma vehicle. I will admit, that this whole piece went right over my head, but in order to continue to love this show, sometimes we have to suspend our disbelief:)

*Did you know that Jimmy Kimmel is a HUGE Lost fan? I totally forgot to tape his show last Tuesday, but Josie and Tom to the rescue. I have yet to see this yet, but according to Darlton there were some things that were "just coincidences". Don't buy it- nothing is a coincidence on this show!

*I mentioned in my last post that reborn of the sacred water Sayid must now be Jacob. Darlton wasn't so sure. There was that piece that it was obvious that Miles couldn't read or hear his thoughts- so was he dead?

Finally- my February vacation is coming up in a week (can I hear an A-men) and I found the perfect thing to do when watching the February 23rd episode.

I wish I still lived at Washington Crossing and could have you all over to the movie theater, as I did in 2006, for a little round of bingo:)

Oh and so you can plan ahead- the finale has been set for Sunday, May 23rd. 9-11 pm

Wednesday, February 3, 2010

W-O-W!

W-O-W!

Answers- yup we got some. Action- yes, definitely. A couple alternate realities- yup, that too.

Did you like the reappearance of all the old gang? Arzt? Cindy the flight attendant? Frogurt? Rose and Bernard? Was it a little too, "Gilligan's Island Christmas Special" as pointed out by my good buddy Josie?

Let's get too it-

1. The Kids are at "the temple" with Cindy the flight attendant. Jack and gang is now there too, with the group I'm going to dub "the Other Others".

2. The Man in Black- the long enemy of Jacob, is now in the body of Locke and he in fact is the Smoke Monster. (This makes me think Locke's interaction with the Smoke Monster early on in Season 1- did something happen even then?) I'm also wondering if this could mean that Ben could never control the smoke monster as we once thought.

3. Reference to Richard having been in chains- he was a slave? and came on the Black Rock?

4. Two realities- if the bomb went off, and the reboot happen- 815 makes it to LA or the bomb went off and they are still there. How freaky/cool was the island now under water? And did you catch the Dharma Shark- remember from the Hydra?

5. The life and death of Juliet- how many times did we see Juliet die, again?(From Melissa) Why give us her back for five minutes? Why not run her to the temple and drop her in the muddy water that resurrected Sayid? (from Ann)

6. Sayid was dead (?) and now has arisen- the water of the temple healed him- but why was it dirty? My personal thought- it was bloody because Jacob had been killed. Sayid is alive, but he is no longer Sayid- is he now Jacob? Did you remember (cause I didn't) that when little Ben Linus was shot last season and brought to the temple, Richard said he would save him, but he would never be the same.....

Sorry so short, but I'm overtired from the three hours and way too many commercials of last night- more tomorrow

Your thoughts, please!

33 minutes....

Quick post- much to be discussed tomorrow

I am of course beyond excited for tonight- just realized tonight is a 3 hour commitment and am suddenly wishing that I had taken tomorrow off:)

Currently watching the recap episode-lots of great reminder stuff, and if you were listening very carefully many of my quotes have been mentioned

1. Charlie- (The British and the French have had long issues in history, but Charlie was happy to think that Rousseau's looping message was to be their savior.)

2. Arzt (the high school science teacher who told the Losties about weather patterns and monsoon season, and was basically the sacrificial Star Trek ensign)

3. Sawyer, after reading all the letters that people had sent on the raft

4. Locke- obvy

5. Mr. Happy- the fake bearded Other who took Walt and confronted Jack

6. Sayid- to Sun and Jin- when they made their way to the other side of the island in Desmond's sail boat and first saw the four-toed statue

7. Des

8. Miss Klugh (Other) and Jack (Lame storyline to explain Jack's real life tattoos)

9. Sawyer and Hurley

10. Daniel Farraday

11. Locke and Ben (ha, time travelling bunnies)

Stacey- you were the only one who posted a try, so you win:)

Mon- I believe the Charlotte situation was one they kind of realized that they flubbed and tried to go back and fix. Her age on the show and the actress's age definitely didn't jive.

What's my line?

Lost has given us some pretty good quotes over the last five years. I tried to pick a wide variety. I love the funny ones as much as I love the deep ones.

Can you figure out who any of them belong to, or the context of them?

1. "It's French, the French are coming! I've never been so happy to hear the French."

2. "I'm sorry that I'm not cool enough to be part of your merry little band of adventurers. I know clique when I see it. I teach high school, pally. You know, you people think you're the only ones on this island doing anything of value. I got news for you. There were forty other survivors of this plane crash. And we are all people, too."

3. "Who the hell is Hugo and how did he get $160 million to leave to his mama?!?"

4. "You're a man of science. I'm a man of faith. Do you really think all this is an accident? That we, a group of strangers, survived, many of us with just superficial injuries? You think we crashed on this place by coincidence? Especially this place? We were brought here for a purpose, for a reason — all of us. Each one of us was brought here for a reason."

5. "This is not your island. This is our island. And the only reason you're living on it is because we let you live on it... We've got a misunderstanding, Jack — your people, my people. So listen carefully. Right here there's a line. You cross that line, we go from misunderstanding to something else. Now give me your weapons, turn around, go home."

6. "I don't know what is more disquieting — the fact that the rest of the statue is missing, or that it has 4 toes?"

7. "Do you not hear me, brother? I crashed your bloody plane!"

8. "'He walks amongst us, but he is not one of us.' Your tattoos -- that's what they say." "That's what they say. That's not what they mean."

9. "Ooh, looks like crouching tiger and hidden dragon got something good. Lay it on me." "No nicknames. If you lose, no nicknames for anyone for a week."

10. "Rescuing you and your people...I can't really say it's our primary objective."

11. "Is he talking about what I think he's talking about?" "If you mean time travelling bunnies, yes."

Are you interested....

in seeing the first four minutes of Tuesday's premiere?

I don't think it is terribly shocking, but it is intriguing.

And I'll tell you this- it made me want to rewatch the pilot- which I immediately
went to Instant Netflix to retrieve.

A four-sided figure is called....

On my list of topics to cover before the premiere next week, tackling the "quadrangle" was obviously a necessity. Literature, TV, and movies are littered with great love triangles; but how many great quadrangles are there? Lost has given us quite a doozy.

From the beginning there was something between Jack and Kate. They met in the jungle just after the crash. She sewed up his wound; he taught her how to count to five and conquer her fears. Jack represented what Katie wanted to want. Sawyer and Kate were cut from the same long-con cloth. Kate definitely wanted Sawyer, and that was made clear in the polar bear cage. Personally, at this point I was more of a "Jater". (I'm not into bad boys:)

Enter, Other Fertility Specialist Juliet. She and Jack start batting eyes at each other, and Kate definitely didn't like it. Fast forward to the set of events that lead Jack and Kate to be part of the Oceanic 6, and Sawyer and Juliet back on the island. Jack and Kate finally hook up, shack up, and even get engaged. This I never bought. It just never seemed to click. Back on the island, Sawyer and Juliet commiserate with some Dharma booze on the beach watching what they believe is the freighter with their loved ones burning away in the distance. Flashback to the love, peace, and science of Dharmaville and there are Juliet and "James" playing house. I didn't see it coming and couldn't believe how much I loved it! Maybe it was Sawyer all cleaned up and finding a way to channel his sheriff energy, but I totally bought them "hook, line and sinker".

Juliet and Sawyer are both shaken by the return of Jack and Kate; but there was definitely a shift to more Juliet, Sawyer and Kate. Watching the "end" of Juliet and Sawyer again the other night was hard. Gut wrenching, even.
So what will happen now? Everyone starts over? Will some combination of this group find their way back to each other? Who are you rooting for?

So are you a Skater, or a Jater, or...

Hold that thought....

I made a whole list of topics I could use for this "Post-Everyday-Until-the-Premiere" challenge, and tonight I find myself throwing it out the window.

At school today my friend Lisa asked, "did you watch the season finale last night?"

Oh my, I thought- I totally didn't- how did I miss that, I really could have used a recap!

Never fear readers- TiVo to the rescue! I realized that I was in my bedroom last night and there may have been taping in the living room and indeed, it did. So I've spent the last hour and a half re-watching "The Incident". It was one of those pop-up episodes with info at the bottom. I love the info, but hating having to keep my eyes peeled on the screen at all times.

Wow! I forgot how much my head hurt after that finale last year. So much happened! I usually watch each episode of Lost twice. I don't think I watched this one twice, so I did some processing tonight.

"The Incident" opens with Jacob weaving and a whole lot of symbolism hit me right away. I'm a big fan of all things Greek mythology, and I think the writers/producers of Lost sure are too. I immediately thought of Penelope, Odysseus' long suffering wife who weaved every night while here husband was away. (This is of course a nod to Desmond's long suffering Penny who waits for him as he goes on his round the world journey.) I'm also reminded of "The Fates" who spin, measure, and eventual cut the thread of each person's life.

Since Jacob seems to pull a lot of "strings" in the lives of our Oceanic 815 peeps, the allusion to the Greeks seems appropriate. (Pretty good, huh. Totally mine)

In 1977-I had forgotten how far Jack has come in this episode. Suddenly he is ready to commit to detonating this bomb and has made the conversion to being a man of Faith- a man who basically now believes in John Locke. (more to come in a future post about the Man of Science vs. the Man of Faith.)

The Quadrangle has many longing looks at each other; Sawyer at Kate, Kate at Jack, Jack at Kate, Juliet at Sawyer, Juliet at Kate? (also more to come on this mess before next Tuesday)

Jack and Sayid are able to get the bomb in a backpack (?) with the help of Richard and Ellie. (I'm surprised they didn't see the Smoke Monster while they were in those underneath tunnels.)

I completely forgot that Sayid was shot- and this reboot must happen in order to save him.

2007-Those Other others (the Ajira Airways people) are traipsing the island with a knocked out Frank Lapidus and John Locke in a box. (You put your Locke in a box...) They realize that "Jacob's shack" hasn't been used in awhile.

Also in 2007- Locke leads the regular Others, Ben, Richard and Sun to the statue to find Jacob. This doesn't end well for Jacob- and Locke isn't Locke- he's the Man in Black.

Oh, and the best part of the episode- we find out that Rose, Bernard, and Vincent have been happily living their dream retirement out in the jungle.

I think I'm ready for next week!

Viewer mail:

Stacey would like to know about Shannon and Boone? Yes, Stacey- in theory the reboot should show us both, however rumors say we are only getting Boone. Apparently Maggie Grace and the actress who played Rousseau were two of the only hold outs. The Boone back story will just be minus his step-sister.

Monica- Oh, poor Daniel.....if you haven't seen yet, you will definitely see what happens to him on screen.

Since you've been gone...............

(For the record, in the Lost Blogathon I've created for myself the most previous post about all of our questions was actually posted yesterday. As I post today, I am keeping with my promise. This one's going to have to be quick, 'cause I have a bunch of school stuff to accomplish at the same time.)

We've lost quite a few characters in these five seasons of Lost. Darlton has always said, "when you're dead on the island, you are dead." Thanks for flashbacks and Jacob's shack we continue to see some other favorites.

Here are my two categories of characters who have left us

I ain't missing you at all.....
Ethan Rom- How creepy was William Mapother in the first season role as the infiltrating Other who tries to take Claire and baby Aaron? (you know he's Tom Cruise's cousin, right?)

Nikki and Paulo- do you even remember these two train wrecks, who as we speak are buried alive? Awful- they were almost the jumping the shark moment of this series

Anna Lucia- just plain annoying, and proof that if you drink and drive in Hawaii, you'll get canned

Gone, but in our hearts....
Charlie- I know others who will disagree, but I have a soft spot for the DriveSHAFT bassist

Rousseau and Alex- I wanted more time for their reunion, and I loved the French woman's Rambo, gun toting attitude

Locke- Obvy

In Limbo- Where does Claire fall? Dead or alive?

Anyone you're glad to be rid of, or miss terribly? (I left you plenty of possibilities:)

You've got questions, Darlton better have answers

I think this may be the biggest thing to all Lost fans. Maybe more than any other series, there have been may more questions than answers. We've been waiting a long time, do you think this season will deliver? "Darlton" (Writers, Creators, Producers Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse) has promised that the big ones will be.

My biggies:

The Numbers- Next to Locke's big wheelchair reveal, the numbers are the thing that totally sucked me into Lost. I remember distinctly forcing Natalie to sit down as I gave her my TiVo version of the episode. She was completely freaked by Hurley's lottery numbers appearing on the island. (***Side note- I am a HUGE Veronica Mars fan, in the second season there was a really funny plot point by which Veronica receives a Fortune cookie fortune from her former boyfriend that facilitates them getting back together. When the character of Duncan leaves the show, the camera zooms in on the fortune on her dresser and it says something about great love, blah, blah and the numbers at the bottom 4 8 15 16 23 42. Funny. Great to see a shout out from Veronica's producer Rob Thomas to his tv peeps.)

The Smoke Monster- We get a taste for this right away in the pilot. What is in the jungle? Is it mechanical- like when we saw it grab Locke and try to take him underground? What does it "do" to people? Remember how Mr. Eko saw all of his past sins? Does Ben, or the head Other, control it? Is it the Island Security system and related to that Jurassic Park looking fence that Juliet turned off?

The Children and Special Children- remember how the Others came and took those Tailie children in "The Other 48 Days". Why? And what happened to them? The Others also wanted Walt and Aaron. Was it because there seemed to be a birthing problem on the island (thus the necessity of the procurement of Juliet the fertility specialist) or was it because Walt and Aaron were "special"?

Others/Dharma Initiative- I think we can confidently say now that they are not one in the same. While Ben came to the island initially to be part of Dharma, he defected to the native islanders, the Others, and then killed off the DI allowing the Others to move in to their Utopia. So who are the Others? Who is Richard Alpert, and how old is he?

Jacob- When Ben initially say Jacob was their leader and he took his orders from him, I didn't believe him. There was all that weird stuff with the cabin, and Locke, and even Hurley. We "saw" Jacob as Christian Shepherd Jack's booze bag dad who should've been in his coffin. Does Jacob inhabit specific bodies? When we "met" Jacob last season and saw him in all sorts of of Losties back stories, it seemed strange and forced. Of course the all powerful island man seems to have died in last year's finale? Is Faux Locke his enemy?

I could be at this for days....so I'm stopping here.

What are your questions that MUST be answered for you to have closure?

Play favorites

Just over one week!!!! Wow is January flying!

I'm setting the bar high for myself, and will attempt to post every day between now and the premiere. I would love to get a great dialogue going. So my plan is to leave you with some big
questions, and I want to hear all of your thoughts.

I have a bunch of different ideas, but I'll spare you and start small.

Your favorite Lostie is......

For me it is always about Locke.

From the beginning, he was calm in the midst of the storm. He seemed "strange". The knife, the boar hunting, the backgammon playing with Walt. He mystical and mysterious.

And then there was "Walkabout". Premiering on October 13, 2004. It was in this episode that we learned where Locke's optimism seems to stem from. He had his humdrum life at the box company and dreamed of going on a "walkabout" in the Australian outback. He spends his nights "just talking" with a woman on a 1-900 phone line that he insists on calling "Helen". :)
On the island, he comes face to....face? with the Smoke Monster. Which he will later tell all, "I have looked into the face of this island and it is beautiful." I was completely shocked, and the big softy in me crumpled, when the episode ended with Locke being denied his walkabout chance because......dunt dunt dunt.....he was in a wheel chair. Then we see the mangled wheel chair burning along with the fuselage and we see Locke's reaction differently. He can suddenly walk!

Through these last five seasons we have seen Locke struggle with himself. Is he the ultimate Man of the Faith? Was the hatch important?

Locke is Lost to me.

(Of course, I also do love me some Hurley.............................. )

Who makes Lost for you?

Come on now- hit comment. You can do it. You can be anonymous:)

Groundhog's Day, again....

So, I've recently been accused (ahem) by a good friend that I spoil too much for myself online. Ok, there is probably some truth to that. I like to be "in the know". It's the heart of who I am. In another life, I would have been a journalist and why I think I earn my "Veronica" nickname at school.

What I need to know from you all, is how much you want me to tell you? I "know" things and I think many of you read enough on your own to "know" things as well.

I mentioned in my last post about the Groundhog's Day evening premiere being in jeopardy because of the State of the Union (I mean we all know the "state", it isn't so good) All parties, including the White House, came to their senses. No State of the Union on February 2nd.

Some of you have inquired about the choice of Groundhog's Day. I don't think it's a very big secret that the series is set to "reboot" with this premiere. Does Juliet's brave detonation of "the bomb" affect the space time continuum? or will what we see be more of "what if"?

Lots of good info and interviews are popping up. Keep checking in to "frienemies"
Watch with Kristin (my personal favorite) at Eonline and Michael Ausiello at EW. Even better
at EW is the complicated Doc Jensen. I love to read his stuff, but sometimes my head hurts before I even finish the first page (and there is usually like 5 detailed pages of theories and connections.)

So grab a drink, sit down and read some of this info- 17 days friends!!!!

Thanks Barack Obama!

So apparently, the White House is mulling over two dates for the lovely State of the Union address. Either Tuesday January 29th or......wait for it.........Tuesday February 2nd. Yes
that Tuesday February 2nd when our beloved LOST is set to premiere. Of course stupid (sorry Natalie and Stacey) American Idol starts the 26th.

A little clip from one of my favorite sources:

"According to an ABC insider, there is talk of moving the premiere to the following Tuesday (Feb. 9) if Obama sticks with Feb. 2. However, it is not an easy decision. "Steve McPherson loved the idea of launching the series on Groundhog Day [which is Feb. 2 this year]," the insider tells me. "And obviously the amount of marketing capital spent on the Feb. 2 launch is considerable."

Really ABC insider- Groundhog's Day is always February 2nd and Christmas is always December 25th, and Halloween is always October 31st.

My opinion, if it counts for anything, leave the premiere in the 26th because Fox won't show the State of the Union anyway, and it won't ruin everything! Ugh!

Do you love the new promo shot of the cast as the Last Supper? What do you think of good old Locke in the Jesus chair?
